Here is my latest environment art project—a medieval alpine outpost nestled in a serene mountain valley. This project was a deep dive into environment planning, modular workflows, and efficient texture budgeting to create a cohesive and immersive scene.
Key Workflow Details:
1. Planning & Modularity: Started with extensive reference gathering and planning to break down the architecture into efficient modular pieces. All structural assets were modeled in Autodesk Maya.
2. Texturing & Optimization: Planned and created two distinct Trim Sheets (one optimized for Tessellation and one Non-Tessellated). The modular pieces were carefully unwrapped and mapped based on these sheets to maximize texel density and performance.
3. Prop Creation: Modeled and detailed the various props using Blender, utilizing the trim sheets to maintain a consistent visual style across the scene.
4. Foliage & Nature: The trees were generated using EZ-Tree software. I then manually painted the foliage and grass in Unreal Engine to achieve a natural, dense look.
5. Engine & Lookdev (Unreal Engine 5): Assembled the entire scene in Unreal Engine 5. Utilized vertex painting for realistic material blending and leveraged material nodes to set up advanced shaders, tweak global look-dev, and lock in the desired atmospheric mood.
